It’s Friday AND it’s the 8th – that means it’s time for both Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge (cupcakes not required) AND Divine Design.

First here’s my card for TECC28.  I got to use this super fun new Stampendous set being released today exclusively at eclectic Paperie.  It’s called Merry Muffins and it’s so clever!  There are two different bottom pieces – a soda glass and a muffin/cupcake and then several different tops (whip cream or icing) with different characters – chick, Fluffles the cat, penguin, snowman.  They are clear stamps and so easy to put together in all the different combos along with the cute sentiments and little extras like straws and sprinkles.

For this card I colored the image with Copic markers and added Crystal Effects to the soda glass and cherry as well as Liquid Applique for the whipped cream.  Sentiment on the front says:  Hope your bday is delish.  On the inside it says:…with a cherry on top!! Finished card size is 6″ x 3.25″.  If you want this set (and how could you not?) you need to head over to eP and order it right away.  I’m not sure how many of these sets they got, but I’m betting they sell out over the weekend.  You can see more samples by clicking here.

Recipe:

paper – Real red, Summer Sun, White, sp from Basic Grey Two Scoops

stuff – Copic markers, Crystal Effects, Liquid Applique, Liquid Pearls, Kaiser Craft green rhinestones, fancy red flower rhinestone brad, circle punches

The TECC is a sketch challenge and you do not need to use cupcakes.  I hope you’ll play along – you can get all the info on Taylor’s blog by clicking here.  To see samples made by the whole Cupcake crew just do a little blog hopping:

 Lynn Mercurio: Stamperosity
Ana Wohlfahrt: Ink A Stamp

Vicki Chrisman: This Art that makes me Happy
Mary Jo Albright: Beauty Lies Within
Sherrie Siemens: Card Creme
Monika Davis: M.A.D. Stamper

And now to switch gears to the Divine Design Challenge.  I apologize for missing last month – I just never got caught up.  At some point I do intend to do a make up card for it though.  The verse I chose for this month is Psalm 43:3.4

      O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me;
Let them bring me to Your holy hill
         And to Your dwelling places.
Then I will go to the altar of God,
         To God my exceeding joy;
And upon the lyre I shall praise You, O God, my God.

This month’s journaling card is very simple – the verse is printed on vellum and framed with Bella Rose designer paper layered over a Kiwi Kiss base.  The roses are cut out from another sheet of Bella Rose and covered in Crystal Effects.  The vine is made up of some die cut leaves that have been sitting out on my stamp table for months.

Let’s see what the other Scripture Chicks have to say today – Angel Wilde, Nancy MorganTaylor VanBruggen and Lori Craig.

Today I’m having an Open House Retired Stamp Sets Clearance.  If you’re in the area I hope you’ll stop by between 3-5 or 7-9pm.

Colossians 2:6-8 Rooted

June 9th, 2008

It’s time once again for the Bible Verse Challenge – well…it’s actually a day late.  Thanks for your patience this month.  You can read Challenge details on SCS by clicking here – we’d love to have you join us any time.  The idea is to make a card or page each month featuring a different Bible verse for memorization and meditation/prayer so that at the end of the year you have a completed project either for yourself or for a gift.  I am making 5″ x 3 3/8″ journaling cards to fit into a Provo Craft mini top-loading tin.

Here’s my card for this month.

bvc-june-jami-col-2-custom.jpg

The verses I chose this month are Colossians 2:6-8

6  So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, 7  rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

8  See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

Our worship pastor, Joe Jacobson, preached a message on this portion of scripture (and the following verses) last Sunday.  In my sermon notes I wrote:

  • everything you have learned of Jesus – live in this way – checking ourselves daily against God’s Word.
  • rooted, built up, established – God is doing this for us. Look to God and thank Him with overflowing gratitude
  • be convinced ONLY of God’s Word.  Satan does not use the obvious – he uses the subtle – the little things to try to drag us away from walking in the Word.

It’s so easy, I think, to get caught up in the ideas of the world – deceptive philosophy.  So easy to accept ideas (and even sin) that are just flat wrong just because our society has accepted them as the *norm*.  These verses are such an important reminder to me to constantly be checking everything against God’s Word!

The idea of being *rooted* immediately brought to mind a strong tree and I was thrilled to discover that this image from Lovely as a Tree would fit perfectly on my card.  I stamped the tree directly on the River Rock panel and watercolored it with watercolor crayons.  Then I cut around it with a fingertip craft knife purchased from Taylored Expressions.  It was a lot easier for me to control than a regular craft knife.  I also masked the tree with eclipse tape and stamped the Weathered Background with Close to Cocoa ink.  Then I just slipped in my verse which was printed on vellum with my computer from www.Biblegateway.com .  The tree was then completely covered with Crystal Effects, which doesn’t really show in the photo but looks very cool in person.  I added photo corners and brads and the tab and ribbons.

I’m anxious to see what verses and projects the other Scripture Chicks have chosen/created this month.  Let’s go check them out!

Divine Design for May

May 8th, 2008

It’s time once again for the Bible Verse Challenge.

Our Pastor has been teaching from the book of Proverbs and this Sunday he’ll be covering the Proverbs 31 Woman.  I’m anxious to hear the sermon and decided to get a jump start by choosing Proverbs 31:30 as my verse for this month’s challenge.

bvc08-jami-may-08-prov-31-custom.jpg

This hummingbird/flower image from Spring Song (SU) was one I had colored with Copics while watching a movie the other night.  It was stamped on shimmer cardstock so the hummingbird has that irridescent effect I love.  The Color Challenge on SCS this week is Lovely Lilac, Pretty in Pink and Certainly Celery so I went with that.  I punched the window in the Lilac layer using a square punch multiple times.  Then I ran that layer through my cuttlebug for the embossed swirls which I then rubbed with Brilliance Pearlescent Orchid ink.  The verse was printed on vellum and adhered behind the window.  The stamped image was cut out and attached with foam tape for dimension.

This verse is a good reminder to keep our priorities straight.  Not that there’s anything wrong with beauty or concern for our appearance, but it’s important to keep in perspective the things that will last into eternity and to keep God before and above all other concerns.  The Proverbs 31 Woman is a busy busy gal…nevertheless she has her head on straight and she keeps God first.  With all she has going on, if she can do it what excuse could I possibly have?

I’m anxious to see what my fellow Scripture Chicks have created for the challeneg this month.  Wanna join me in some blog hopping to check it out?

Divine Design April

April 8th, 2008

It’s time for this month’s Bible Verse Challenge.  We’d love to have you join us and you can read all the Challenge details here.

bvc-jn-1633-jami-april-08-custom.jpg

Our Pastor just finished teaching a series on the Upper Room Discourse in John 16.  When he taught on this verse, John 16:33, I knew I wanted to use it for my Challenge verse this month.  Jesus spoke plainly to his disciples (and to us) that without doubt there would be trouble and tribulation in this life, but with Him we can have peace through it all.  The illustration Pastor used was that of watching a basketball game on tape after having already heard the results that your team won after coming from behind.  You watch the game with a different perspective when you already know the outcome.  You’re not tense and bummed out that your team is behind – you know they win in the end. We can have peace and a different perspective on the trials of life knowing the outcome with Jesus.  How thankful I am for victory in Him!

Card details – as always the verse is printed on vellum and card size is 5 x 3.5 with a tab and ribbon at the top- the card is blank inside for journaling.  This is a very simple card – Celery base stamped with Stitched Background in Olive, then the vellum layer, then a layer of Bashful Blue.  The Blue was run through my CuttleBug with the Swiss Dots embossing folder and then the scalloped rectangle was cut out using a Nestabilities Die.  Three punched circles with images from Little Flowers and some tiny blue crystals make for simple embellishments.

Can’t wait to check out the other Scripture Chicks blogs to see this month’s projects as well as the galleries of everyone participating on SCS.  Let’s go blog hopping….

March Divine Design

March 8th, 2008

Happy Saturday – it’s time for another edition of the Bible Verse Challenge – see all the details  here on Splitcoaststampers and please join us!  With Easter right around the corner I just kept coming back to John 3:16 and 17.

bvc08-jami-march-08-john-3-custom.jpg

Salvation is the most awesome and wonderful gift we could ever receive and the fact there is nothing we can do to earn it is truly humbling.  Jesus paid it all and it is up to each of us to accept His gift – free to us – that cost Him so much.

Each month I am making journaling cards that are 3.25″ x 5″ to fit in a small Provo Craft tin.  Today I kept the card monochromatic in celery and olive using Refuge and Strength under the velum panel and Antique Cracking on the card base.

I’m late with my posting today (sorry Ladies!) and am anxious to see what the rest of the Scripture Chicks created…join me in visiting Lori Craig, Taylor VanBruggen, Nancy Morgan and Angel Wilde.

Thanks for stopping by.

Philippians 4:6-7 Everything

February 8th, 2008

It’s time for another Divine Design Bible Verse Challenge.  Click here for Challenge details and please join with us – everyone is welcome!  We’ll be uploading on the 8th of each month, but if you don’t make it that day you can always upload later as well.

bible-verse-phil-4-feb-08-jami-custom.jpg

This month I chose Philippians 4:6-7 because it has been one of my life verses so it was really a natural for me.  As someone who has struggled off and on throughout my life with anxiety/panic disorder there have been many times when this verse has been like a life preserver in a stormy ocean.  The peace of God which truly is beyond human comprehension is one of His most wonderful gifts.

The card, like last month is made to fit in a small tin and opens so I can journal inside.  The verse was printed on vellum and I used the SU set Always along with Berry Bliss designer paper.  I got the “everything” crooked at the bottom despite using my Stamp-a-majig and it’s bugging me, but there was no time to start over tonight.

I can’t wait to see what the other Scripture Chicks have done this month.  Click on their names to go to their blogs or click here to go to the Bible Verse uploads on SCS.

I have to show you my little shopping find.  I whizzed through Kohl’s really quickly and check these out…

jumbo-clips-feb-08-jami-custom.jpg

Super Duper Gargantuan Jumbo Clips!  There are three in a package.  The original price was $19.99, but they were on sale for $7.99.  I resisted the urge to buy all they had, even putting down the second package I had in my hands.  Are they huge or what?  I put the jumbo clip I made last week next to them for size reference.  Office supplies in the Land of the Giants!  LOL!

Lori arrives this afternoon!  WooHoo!  The next few days are going to be so incredible!  I’ll post when I can.  Be sure to check in…I’ll try to have some CHA product photos *wink*

Thanks for stopping by!
