My card today is not only a sketch sample, it’s also a preview of my upcoming Class next Friday night October 16th.  We’ll be creating this card along with 2 others.  I have a few open spots, so be sure to contact me ASAP is you’d like to attend.  Registration is just $12.

I kept this card pretty simple, because this SU designer paper (Christmas Cocoa Specialty from the Holiday Mini) is flocked and oh so yummy and just needs to be shown off.  The snowflake image from Serene Snowflakes was inked first with Classic Real Red ink and then I sponged on Frost White Shimmer Paint.  I couldn’t get a photo to show the beautiful shimmery effect, but I thought it coordinated well with the richness of the dp.  There is a clear rhinestone brad in the center of the snowflake.

Now it’s time to see what the rest of the Cupcake Crew has cooked up:

  • Donna Baker
  • Jackie Pedro
  • Jami Sibley
  • Lynn Mercurio
  • Monika Davis
  • Sherrie Siemens
  • plus Our Friday Friend Sunghee has a sample on the SASI Blog
  • Taylor VanBruggen has a sample and all the info so you can play along!
  • Thanks for stopping by.  Hope you have a great weekend.  I have a busy busy fun day ahead!

    CC239 Craft on Kraft Cupcake

    October 6th, 2009

When I got home from work today, I checked out the Color Challenge on SCS (CC239).  Mellow Moss, White, and Kraft or Sand…it just sounded yummy and I had to try it.  I started thinking about it while I watched some of DWTS from last night on DVR.  By the time I got into my stamp room, I had the card almost completely designed in my head and it went together pretty quickly.

    cc239-kraft-bday-jami-09-custom.jpg

I started with a standard sized Kraft cardstock base, but then cut it down by .25″ on the bottom and  right side so it could be mounted onto a Mellow Moss panel 4.25″ x 5.5″.  I used the Fiskars Threading Water punch down the side of the kraft and then inked it with white craft ink direct to paper.  I loved how that punch has the same design element as the cake plate from On a Pedestal.  It’s a little hard to see in the photo, but I used a scallop rectangle nestie to just emboss a pattern into the front of the kraft card base and then outlined it with a white gel pen.  I stamped the images in craft ink (white, mellow moss and real red).  The sentiment is from a retired SU set and it’s also stamped in white craft ink.  Some mellow moss taffeta ribbon and 3 Taylor’s Tiny Twinkles finish off this super simple design.  I’m lovin’ it!  :)  I hope you like it too.

    Thanks for stopping by.

    Bird Cage Tent Toppers

    October 6th, 2009

Good morning.  I need to get ready to head out to the office, but first I have a couple of cards I wanted to share with you.  On World Card Making Day I did manage to get one card made (kind of pathetic after originally planning to stamp all day, but at least I spent some fun time in my stamp room!)  At the moment I’m pretty stuck on Wings of Joy from TE and I still have the Christmas Key Ingredients spread out all over my desk, so that was my starting point.  I hadn’t yet inked up the bird cage image and I could hardly wait to get my inky fingers on it!

    tent-topper-christmas-cage-jami-09-custom.jpg

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on TE Choice White cardstock and die cut it with circle nestabilities.  While it was still in the die I sponged on some Sage Shadow around the cage and then some Barely Banana ink inside the cage.  Then it was simply colored with Copics.  I went over all the cage outlines with a Sakura Stardust glaze pen – I wish you could see the pretty sparkly effect that gives.  I stamped the stocking twice on a scrap of cardstock, colored them and cut them out and then hung them from the birds’ perch.

The card base is 4.25″ square Riding Hood Red followed by a layer of Sage Shadow and then the Jolly By Golly paper from the KI.  That’s faux stitching around the edge.  (if you’d like to weigh in with an opinion about me getting a sewing machine for paper crafting see this thread on SCS.) Buttons are a combo of SU and Hall Pass Bag o’ Buttons.  Ribbon is from the KI.  I love that yummy sage satin and have used it all up already!  Sentiment was punched with the SU Modern Label punch.

Here’s a photo of the inside of the card.

    tent-topper-christmas-inside-custom.jpgThe sentiment says

    “May Joy take

flight in your Heart this season,

    bringing Love

    to all around you.”

As soon as I saw this birdcage image in the set, I pictured using it for ocassions other than Christmas.  I was so happy with the way this card turned out that I decided to make almost the same card again the next day as a birthday card by using the July KI featuring the Early Bird papers.  All I really needed to do is cover up the holly at the top of the cage, so I used a Build-a-Brad with a piece of the dp punched out for a new cage topper.

    tent-topper-bday-jami-09-custom.jpg

Yellow cardstock base and olive layer are Prism from the Key Ingredients.  The red is SU Real red.  The sentiment is tent-topper-bday-inside-custom.jpgfrom the TE SASI set Doctor’s Orders.  Here’s a photo of the inside.  The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the TE SASI set Sweet Celebration.  These tent topper cards were so much fun to make and really easy too.  If you’ve never tried one, there’s a great tutorial by Beate on SCS – both photos and video – click here to see it.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day!

    My Own Special JOY!

    October 3rd, 2009

    joy-snippet-jami-custom.jpg

Happy World Card Making Day!  Are you stamping today?  I had planned to spend all day stamping, but here it is afternoon and I haven’t created a thing yet…we’ll see.  We have a Challenge up over on the SASI Blog and you have through tomorrow night to play.  One winner will be selected through a random draw to receive the Taylored Expressions Stamp Set of your choice, so definitley check it out!  It’s an easy one!  😉

I do have some cards to share with you today.  They are all from the new TE set Wings of Joy which was released this morning and now available for purchase.  I’m super excited about this set…it’s so darned cute!  And besides that I got to participate in it’s development.  One of my favorite aspects of my job working with TE is sometimes getting to help out with the development of stamp sets.  Usually I just give an opinion here or there on which possible images I like best or suggest some sentiments to add to images already developed.  With Wings of Joy, Taylor showed me very early on what she and Nancy were working on and I actually got to contribute two of the images.  I don’t draw very well AT ALL, but I sketched out the *JOY* image and the *winter birdhouse* and sent them to Taylor.  She liked them and sent them over to Nancy to make them *use-able*. Omigosh!  I can’t tell you how excited I was to see them in the final version of the set, but beyond that I was positively giddy when the set arrived and I actually had a rubber stamp in my hand that I had designed.  I kept showing it to Curt and then showing him my sketch and saying “Look! It’s almost just like what I drew!”  LOL!  I also contibuted the sentiment that was highlighted on my card yesterday.

Naturally, these were 2 of the very first images I wanted to work with when my TE sets arrived.  I started out with the concept of making a set of very simple cards with a lot of white space and here’s what I came up with. (I apologize for the picture quality.  I hadn’t had a chance to take pictures till this morning and Curt was on his way out the door to a car show and needed the camera so I had to take them in a hurry and the lighting just wasn’t good.)

    joy-set-jami-09-custom.jpg

I’m thinking I could make another set of these and have a nice set of 6 to put into a Perfect Package as a gift.  For each of these cards the image was stamped onto TE Choice Snow White cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and colored with copics.  The red and green Prism cardstocks as well as the ribbon came from the TE Christmas Key Ingredients.

Here’s a closer view of the Joy card. I did some doodling around the edges and used KaiserCraft Lippy Red rhinestones in the corners.

    simple-joy-jami-09-custom.jpg

Here’s the tree. Clear Rain Dots were perfect to put on top of the little ornaments – very cool effect in person!

    simple-tree-jami-09-copy-custom.jpg

And here is the clothesline.  Did you see what Taylor did with this image and the mini clothespins?  I know I have some of those somewhere and I need to dig them out!

    simple-stockings-jami-09-custom.jpg

Next I wanted to work with the birddhouse image and more of the elements from the Christmas KI.  birdhouse-christmas-jami-09-custom.jpg

I wanted a more vintage feel so I decided to use one of the brown Prism shades of cs from a previous KI as the card base and to tie in with the brown on the birdhouse.  There is Liquid Applique over the snowy areas.  The image was die cut with a Spellbinders Curvy Rectangle die and sponged with some Close to Cocoa ink.  I used an EK Success border punch along the bottom of the patterned paper.  The satin ribbon is from the Christmas KI.  I have to say that I am really tickled with how this card turned out and it’s really simple enough that I could make a whole batch of these fairly easily.

If you haven’t already gotten all the info on today’s release at Taylored Expressions, you’ll want to hop over to Taylor’s blog and get caught up!  Plus from there you’ll definitley want to hop around and see all the samples of Holiday Wonder on the Baker’s Dozen blogs!  Those girls just blow me away!  And don’t forget to play the TE WCMD Challenge to be entered to win.

I need to get stamping.  Hope you have a great weekend!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

    TESC85 Wings of Joy

    October 2nd, 2009

tesc85-close-up-jami-09-custom.jpgHappy Friday!  Ready for another fun sketch challenge from Taylor?  Not only do I have a sample for TESC85 today, but I also managed to sneak in a little peek of one of the new TE stamp sets to be released tomorrow.  *GRIN*  This set is right up my alley so I really just couldn’t resist.  It’s called Wings of Joy and it’s all about adorable birdie images for the holidays.  I know I’ve talked lots about Tessa over the past few months, so some of you may not realize how bird-centric our home really is.  We have had 2 macaws for about 16 years now and belive it or not, Beaker and R.B. have priority over Tessa.  Even before owning birds, I have always loved bird stamps.  That being said, I’m pretty picky about which ones I like and I am absolutely smitten with the birds Nancy has created for this set!

    tesc85-jami-wings-of-joy-custom.jpg

This card features one of the birdies from Wings of Joy along with elements (cardstock, Jolly By Golly papers, ribbon, chipboard snowflake) from the Christmas Key Ingredients also to be released tomorrow.  The birdie is colored with Copics and highlighted with a little glitter.  The swirls are stamped with Sage Shadow ink and I added a little sponged ink as well.  I stamped the sentiment inside the circle frame from TE Berries & Cherries  and punched with a 1 3/4″ circle punch.  I colored the 2 rings with Copics and then covered the whole piece with Versamark and heat embossed it with clear ep.  It’s popped up on foam tape.  The snowflake was colored with a red Copic and then covered with Versamark and heat embossed with Irridescent Ice ep.  A few green KaiserCraft rhinestones finish off the design.

I hope you’ll play in the sketch challenge with us.  You can get all the details on Taylor’s blog today.  Let’s see what the rest of the sketch crew has cooked up:

  • Are you geared up for World Card Making Day tomorrow?  I’m planning to stamp like crazy!  And I’ll be back in the morning to share another card I’ve already made this week.  Thanks for stopping by.

    jami-signature-transparent.jpg

I’m excited to show you a little sneak peek of one of the new Taylored Expressions stamp sets that will be available on Saturday October 3rd.  This gorgeous set is called Christmas Blessings and it’s something I’ve been wishing for for a very long time.  Christmas has deep meaning far beyond Santa and snowmen, yet every year I struggle with making my own Christmas cards to reflect the magnitude of the birth of our Savior.  Don’t get me wrong – I love cute Santas and snowmen as much as the next stamper, but I’ve longed for a *religious* Christmas set that I would want to use and almost every year in the past I’ve been disappointed. Finally!  Here it is!  I am truly thrilled with this set!

kraft-christmas-blessings-jami-oct-09-custom.jpgSince I’m not part of the Baker’s Dozen Design Team, I was not originally planning to post anything today, but unfortunately the mail seems to have gotten caught up at the northern border and our two Canadian designers, Laura and Dawn, haven’t received their stuff.  Since I had a card made already, I’m happy to step in to pinch hit this morning.

I have many ideas running through my head for this set, but the very first one I just had to try was pairing it with kraft cardstock!  The framed manger image was embossed with white craft ink and white embossing powder on kraft cardstock.  Then I sponged on Not Quite Navy ink to create a night sky.  The image was then die cut with a rectangle nestie and layered onto a NQN scallop rectangle cut with another nestie.  That was then wrapped with some linen thread.  I stamped the kraft cardbase with a retired SU background stamp, Crosshatch, in NQN ink and added a few white dots with a gel pen.  Then I just inked the edges with my white craft ink pad direct to paper.  A few of Taylor’s Tiny Twinkles finish off my design.

For the inside I used three different stamps to create my sentiment –

“May your Christmas be a time to reflectblessings-inside-custom.jpg

on the simplicity of His birth

and the magnitude of His purpose”

-the flourish is a separate image-

    “Christmas Blessings”

I wanted to keep the inside very simple so I didn’t add any further embellishments.

I can hardly wait to see what Taylor and the Baker’s Dozen have created with this set.  Wanna come with me to check it out?
