Bird Cage Tent Toppers

Published by jami at 8:26 am under Stamped Stuff, Taylored Expressions

Good morning.  I need to get ready to head out to the office, but first I have a couple of cards I wanted to share with you.  On World Card Making Day I did manage to get one card made (kind of pathetic after originally planning to stamp all day, but at least I spent some fun time in my stamp room!)  At the moment I’m pretty stuck on Wings of Joy from TE and I still have the Christmas Key Ingredients spread out all over my desk, so that was my starting point.  I hadn’t yet inked up the bird cage image and I could hardly wait to get my inky fingers on it!

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on TE Choice White cardstock and die cut it with circle nestabilities.  While it was still in the die I sponged on some Sage Shadow around the cage and then some Barely Banana ink inside the cage.  Then it was simply colored with Copics.  I went over all the cage outlines with a Sakura Stardust glaze pen - I wish you could see the pretty sparkly effect that gives.  I stamped the stocking twice on a scrap of cardstock, colored them and cut them out and then hung them from the birds’ perch.

The card base is 4.25″ square Riding Hood Red followed by a layer of Sage Shadow and then the Jolly By Golly paper from the KI.  That’s faux stitching around the edge.  (if you’d like to weigh in with an opinion about me getting a sewing machine for paper crafting see this thread on SCS.) Buttons are a combo of SU and Hall Pass Bag o’ Buttons.  Ribbon is from the KI.  I love that yummy sage satin and have used it all up already!  Sentiment was punched with the SU Modern Label punch.

Here’s a photo of the inside of the card.

“May Joy take

flight in your Heart this season,

bringing Love

to all around you.”

As soon as I saw this birdcage image in the set, I pictured using it for ocassions other than Christmas.  I was so happy with the way this card turned out that I decided to make almost the same card again the next day as a birthday card by using the July KI featuring the Early Bird papers.  All I really needed to do is cover up the holly at the top of the cage, so I used a Build-a-Brad with a piece of the dp punched out for a new cage topper.

Yellow cardstock base and olive layer are Prism from the Key Ingredients.  The red is SU Real red.  The sentiment is tent-topper-bday-inside-custom.jpgfrom the TE SASI set Doctor’s Orders.  Here’s a photo of the inside.  The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the TE SASI set Sweet Celebration.  These tent topper cards were so much fun to make and really easy too.  If you’ve never tried one, there’s a great tutorial by Beate on SCS - both photos and video - click here to see it.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day!

Adorable cards, Jami!! Love the stockings hanging from the perch on the first one (and of course, the buttons!) and what a great idea to make a birthday card with the same set! Love how you covered the holly with the pretty brad and the cute sentiment!
