Where Did All the Layers Go?

September 20th, 2008

It’s Saturday – WooHoo!  And it’s the 20th so it’s time for another SCS Dirty Dozen Alumni Gallery Reunion.  For today’s reunion I challenged the Girls to create a one layer card using the masking technique and the restriction *gasp* was no pink!

With a Fabriano notecard I started by stamping the frame (Frames with a Flourish by SU) and then masking it.  Next I stamped this comical stack of cupcakes from Sweet Celebration  (Stamp a Sweet Impression available at Taylored Expressions) first on Eclipse making tape twice and cutting it out.  Then I was ready to stamp a whole group of them masking two at a time.  The sentiment was created with Karen Foster Snap stamps.  The rest is just watercoloring with ink and an aquapainter and a little highlighting (code for *mistake covering* – LOL!) with a white gel pen.   Little red Rain Dots are the cherries on top.

I just have to say – I don’t know how I managed before Eclipse tape!  The first time I bought it after hearing so much about it, I thought it was kind of expensive.  But wow – it is soooo much better than using post it notes!  And once I cut out a mask I save it with the stamp set for future use.  I love that stuff!

To see what the rest of the playing DDA came up with check the SCS gallery here.  People will be uploading all day so be sure to check back again tomorrow so you don’t miss anything.

We have an appointment today to go look at a litter of Miniature American Eskimo puppies – pretty much the only dog breed Curt and I both agree on and love.  We both feel torn/conflicted about the idea of a puppy – mostly because of our three birds.  They will always be the priority and we just aren’t sure about balancing time and attention for everyone and how they would react/adjust.  But these puppies are just so darned cute.  They won’t be old enough to take home for a few weeks anyway.  Can’t hurt to just go look, right?  (Mom – I wish you and Dad were home to go with us!)

One of the five puppies –

and here’s the pup’s mom and dad –

On that note of happy cuteness – have a great weekend!

OMG! How cute are they. I never even seen this breed. YIKES, I already have two dogs a cat and a snake, not sure I needed to see this post. Your card is adorable too, even with no layers. Too cute.

i am the mother of an 8 year old miniature american eskimo named belle. she is the daughter i never had. 🙂

a pure joy to have around. she is smart, very loyal (especially to me), friendly with all, and easily trained. only negative she is a bit of a barker especially when someone comes to the door. after the visitor comes in and gives her an attentive pat, she is calm.

no health issues but be aware that eskies cannot tolerate corn in their diet. so make sure corn is not one of the first five or six ingredients in their dog food. I feed my dog Avoderm Lite Adult which consists of brown rice, oatmeal and chicken, among many other ingredients.

    enjoy.

what a fun card with ALL those cupcakes!! that pup is adorable! one thing is, you can’t really ‘snuggle’ with a bird but can with a dog!

  5. Cindy Says:

Of course I love the card but wanted to mention that we have a 7 month American Eskie that we had shipped from Arkansas. (there weren’t any pups here that were available at the time). He is the smartest, cleanest, most loveable little bundle. I worried how he would do with the cat that I have had for 13 years. They will never be buddies but they tolerate each other. Everyone that has met our Kodi wants one!

  6. Debra Says:

Great masking & one layer card, Jami — that’s a lot of watercoloring! Girl, a puppy? What are you thinking? LOL!

Love your card — you really took the masking to heart — WOW!!! Looks great and I love your framed sentiment!!!! Great challenge card and yes, what adorable puppies, but if you look, you KNOW what happens — LOL!!! Good luck!!!

  11. HB Says:

Great card Jami! Yikes, that must have taken some time! Almost easier to stamp each stack and cut them out! (ya, I know, that defeats the challenge. lol)

  12. Sharon in NE Says:

Oh yes! growing up I had a beloved Eskimo Spitz, which I believe the breed is now called miniature Am. Eskimo. I would give my eyeteeth to have another. Precious! Smart! Sweet! Obedient! Good with birds! (I made that up. I’m only guessing.) But the other attributes are true. 😀

  13. Sharon Says:

Such a cute puppy. I also had an AE named Snowball….by far the best pet I’ve ever had. Faithful, friendly, smart and beautiful. Enjoy!!
